Dog daycare franchise Hounds Town – Garden City is a proud sponsor of the North Shore Animal League’s third annual “Walk & Wag” event. The 1.5 mile charity walk took place at North Hempstead Beach Park on September 28, 2019. Walkers could participate on site at the park or virtually in their own towns to save dogs and earn prizes. The popular Long Island rescue raised more than $32,000 toward their no-kill mission.

Dedicated to Saving Lives

Colleen Tracey-Shaver, owner of Hounds Town – Garden City, has adopted several animals from North Shore’s facility through her life and was proud to participate. “I am a huge fan of NSAL,” she says. Hounds Town USA is known for their work with local rescues and charities, especially through their nonprofit, Hounds Town Charities. The franchisees frequently foster and train hard-to-adopt pups, like Coyote and Bobi. “The number one issue affecting rescue dogs right now is finding suitable homes for dogs that have behavioral issues,” Tracey-Shaver says. Hounds Town – Garden City participated in the Walk & Wag event as a sponsor, vendor, and a registrant. Tracey-Shaver anticipates that the event will be even bigger next year.

Joining Forces

Established in 1944, the North Shore Animal League celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2019 as the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. They’ve saved the lives of more than a million dogs and cats since they first opened their doors during World War II.

Popular doggy daycare Hounds Town USA has also had more than a million pets pass through their doors. “The demand has been huge over the past two years. We are expanding across the country,” says President Jackie Bondanza.  With plans to open up to seven new locations in 2020 and another 10-15 in 2021, the franchise could have a big impact on local rescue animals. “Having relationships with the shelters and rescues is huge for the community,” Tracey-Shaver says. “I think the fact that NSAL is actually our territory is a huge plus. We hope to be able to work with them in the future.”
