Dog day care franchise Hounds Town USA  is proud of its no-discrimination policy. The popular dog boarding facility welcomes breeds of all ages–big or small–as well as special needs animals. Founder Mike Gould says, “We believe all dogs count, and our facilities are equipped with the expertise to work with special needs dogs.” President Jackie Bondanza adds, “Our franchisees make key partnerships in their community to help make a difference for these dogs. Especially those hard-to-adopt pups who need extra attention.”

Enter Rosie.

Resilient Rosie

Rosie is a good example of that “extra attention” that pays off. A two-year old terrier mix, Rosie was born in Armenia and abused by her owners there. It got so bad that the young pup ended up with a broken back, paralyzed for life. Rescued by Siberian Luna Rescue and fitted with a wheelchair, “Zooming” Rosie came to America looking for a second shot at life. But many potential pup parents get scared off by the prospect of adopting a disabled dog.

Looking for a Home

Fostered in Los Angeles, Rosie waited over a year for a new home, but things were looking bleak. Still she hiked every weekend with her foster mom in Runyon Canyon and didn’t give up hope. And it was in the hills where Mike and Jackie met Rosie for the first time. ““We got to the top of the mountain, and we saw these two tiny ears come bounding up the other side.” After hearing Rosie’s story, Jackie and Mike felt like it was fate. “We knew she was meant to be a part of our family.”

Hounds Town Charities Adopts Mascot

Now Rosie is a world traveler and Hounds Town Charities mascot, inspiring people and pups everywhere. She helps train new franchisees on how to work with disabled dogs, and she greets new candidates on Discovery Days. Her obedience skills are so advanced that she showed them off at World Dog Expo in New Jersey in front of hundreds of spectators.

Hounds Town encourages all their franchisees to develop relationships with local rescues and vets. “The best way for Hounds Town to thrive is for each and every franchise to work with local rescues and charities. We only win when dogs win.”
