Local dog lovers Thomas and Teri Brogden purchase territory to build a new Hounds Town location in Commack

Interactive daycare and pet care facility Hounds Town USA is poised to open its fourth location in Summer 2016 in the Commack area of Long Island, New York. The popular pet care facility has three existing locations in Ronkonkoma, Farmingdale, and Port Jefferson and offers pet owners a straightforward and honest approach to pet care.

Thomas and Teri grew up in Shoreham-Wading River where they met 29 years ago. Both had dogs as children but due to their active lifestyle and love of traveling, they felt that their lives weren’t conducive to dog ownership. They fulfilled their passion and love of animals through volunteering at Calverton’s Kent Animal Shelter where Teri met a rescue dog who had just arrived at the shelter from Puerto Rico. Terrified and shaking, the little Jack Russell/Beagle mix stopped to give Teri hugs every few feet of their walk. With Teri, the pup’s shaking disappeared, only to return when they arrived back at the kennel. That day, Teri and Thomas’ life changed forever. They adopted the dog they named Jackie Russell, and they soon immersed themselves in everything dog-related.

Not only did Jackie Russell’s life change, but so did Thomas’ and Teri’s. Teri was working long hours as a financial advisor and began taking Jackie to Hounds Town Ronkonkoma. “As a new dog parent, I was apprehensive about daycare, wondering if it was the right setting for a timid rescue dog,” says Teri. “Mike Gould, owner of Hounds Town USA, allayed all my fears by sending videos of Jackie playing and having a great time at Hounds Town. That’s when I knew that owning a Hounds Town would be the next phase of my professional journey,” she says.

To plan for the transition to purchase and operate a Hounds Town location, Teri took a job with a more flexible schedule so she could work towards that goal. Just over a year later, Thomas and Teri fulfilled their dream to become the next owner of a Hounds Town location! They are positioned to open in the Commack area in Summer 2016.

Hounds Town—one of Long Island’s first fully interactive doggie daycares—was founded in 2001 by Michael S. Gould, former Commanding Officer of the Nassau County Police Canine Unit and a military veteran.

As a small business, Hounds Town brings to the table a unique experience for animals and their humans. “We offer an expertise in caring for live animals that no corporate pet care facility can duplicate,” says Michael. “It is a perfect franchise model.”

Unlike most other pet care facilities in the nation, Hounds Town does not breed discriminate. Since 2001 Hounds Town USA has hosted almost 500,000 canine visitors at their three Suffolk County locations. Hounds Town is positioned to expand throughout the tri-state and regional area in the coming months.
